2009 Malaga (and bumping into old friends)

^ I had a business trip to Malaga in southern Spain, so Di came with me

^ Spain is a great place, especially for eating, unless you happen to
be a vegetarian like me

^ Everyone is tucking into seafood except me. Not shown is my salad
(peppers and onions only)

^ Back in town, the Christmas lights were better than anything we'd
seen in England.

^a view of the beach with an amazing full moon obscured by a black cloud

^ a courtyard inside the 8th-11th century moorish fort (the Alcazaba)

^ another view

^ we went on an open top bus and a boat in the harbour looked strangely
familiar

^ from the top of the moorish castle (Castillo de Gibralfaro) there was a great view of the city

^ and the cathedral (unfinished since 1782 when the money ran out)

^ walking down the hill we went through some greenery

^ where we saw a chameleon

^ there was a beautiful town hall

^ back at the harbour to see the familar boat in unfamiliar
(to
us) surroundings

^ it was the Akademik Shokalski that took us round
Norwegian Svalbard
in Aug 2008

We noticed someone sanding down what we thought was our porthole in
cabin 312. We waited until he stopped and we shouted up "Hablas Ingles
o Hablas Español ?" and he replied "Soy Ruso". So we tried in English
to describe our connection "This boat ... Svalbard LongYearbyen ...
August 2008 ... Jumping Polar Bear " and he said "I was the driver". We
then tried again and said "Max was on board then" and he replied "He's
here, I ring him"

A couple of minutes later a familar smiling face appeared on deck, he
let down the gangplank and came to see us

^ I realised I had my Quark "Arctic " T shirt on and he said he
remembered us and our trip

^ We also met Oleg
So if anyone is in Malaga over the next couple of months, go to the
harbour to see if the boat is still there and say hello !
Below for comparison are the Akademik Shokalski in Malaga last week and
how we remember her near the north pole.
